CEs Available! The CPR Lady Training Center has been accredited as an Authorized Provider to offer CEs to Certified Medical Assistants (CMA), Certified Nursing Assistants (CNA), Home Health Aides (HHA), Dentists (DDS or DMD), Dental Assistants (RDA), Dental Hygienists (RDH), Emergency Medical Technicians (EMT), Paramedics (Medic), Licensed Vocational Nurses (LVN), Psychiatric Technicians (Psych Tech), Pharmacists (RPh), Pharmacy Technicians (PhTech), Physicians (MD), Physician Assistants (PA), Respiratory Care Practitioners (RCP), Respiratory Therapists (RT), Registered Nurses (RN), and Nurse Practitioners (NP)

Students must request CEs from The CPR Lady at the time of class, state their profession, give their license number, and sign the CE Roster. CEs cannot be issued after the class is completed and closed.

The American Heart Association is authorized to offer AMA Credit Designation Statement to Physicians, AAPA Credit Acceptance Statement to Physician Assistants, AANP Credit Acceptance Statement to Nurse Practitioners, ANCC Credit Designation to Nurses, ACPE Credit Designation Statement to Pharmacists, Continuing Education Accreditation to Emergency Medical Services for the BLS Instructor Essentials. Credits are claimed on the AHA website but there are time limits of 30 days to 6 months depending on the accrediting agency.

1. PROCESS OF BECOMING A BLS INSTRUCTOR:

  • Be accepted by an AHA Training Center (TC) prior to enrolling in the Instructor Course and have a completed Instructor Candidate Application on file with that Training Center (Details below in section 6)
  • Have current American Heart Association BLS Provider eCard and be proficient in all the skills. BLS Provider may NOT be taken online-MUST BE CLASSROOM COURSE.
  • Prior to class complete the BLS Instructor Essentials Online and print the Certificate of Completion (Details below in section 4)
  • Successfully complete the BLS classroom Instructor Course
  • Successfully complete being monitored teaching a BLS Course within three (3) months of completing the classroom Instructor Course (Details below in section 7)

2. PREREQUISITES:

  • BLS Instructors must be at least 18 years of age. This update is due to the requirement that all instructors align with the AHA Atlas website, and the AHA cannot collect information on minors under the age of 18 years.
  • Have current American Heart Association BLS Provider eCard and be proficient in all the skills. BLS Provider may NOT be taken online-MUST BE CLASSROOM COURSE.
  • Complete the BLS Instructor Essentials Online and print the Certificate of Completion to the Instructor class. (Details below in section 4)
  • Align with an AHA Training Center accepting new Instructors (Details below in section 6)

3. REGISTRATION AND PAYMENT:
Registration and payment for the BLS Instructor Course MUST be received prior to class. Register early, classes fill-up quickly. There are no reservations without payment. Class confirmation, directions, and Instructor Essentials keycode are sent by email. Because the BLS Instructor Course covers a lot of material in a relatively short time, advanced preparation is required. NOTE: All classes have an enrollment the cutoff date. Registering after the cutoff date results in a late fee.

4. BLS INSTRUCTOR ESSENTIALS Required:
Completion of the Instructor Essentials Course is required to become an AHA Instructor.

The BLS Instructor Essentials is designed to prepare Instructor Candidate to teach AHA Instructor-led and blended learning courses, show how to adequately use AHA Instructor teaching materials, ensure that students meet learning objectives, offer student coaching skills, provide an objective skills performance evaluation, and follow AHA Instructor and course policies. The Instructor Essentials Course is an online, self-directed, and discipline-specific course. The BLS Instructor Essentials is purchased from The CPR Lady. A keycode is emailed to access the Essentials Course. The BLS Instructor Essentials is a one-time only requirement. The Essentials are mailed about 2 weeks prior to class.

Student MUST have BLS Instructor Manual to complete BLS Instructor Essentials.

Continuing education credits are offered by AHA for the BLS Instructor Essentials Course.

Upon completion of the BLS Instructor Essentials Course, the Instructor Candidate prints a Certificate of Completion which must be brought to the classroom Instructor Course.

All keycode sales are final. Keycode cannot be returned once it is issued.

5. TEXTBOOK/ MANUAL POLICY:
AHA policy states, "Each student must have the current, appropriate textbook readily available before, during and after the course." The BLS Instructor Manual (20-1103) MUST be brought to the class.

The BLS Instructor Manual may be purchased from The CPR Lady. The Manual can be picked up prior to class or mailed for an additional fee. The Instructor Manual is mailed about 2 weeks prior to class.

Student MUST have BLS Instructor Manual to complete BLS Instructor Essentials.

6. TRAINING CENTER ALIGNMENT:
American Heart Association requires Instructor Candidates to align with an authorized Training Center that is accepting new Instructors when signing up for an Instructor Course. The CPR Lady Training Center automatically aligns all Instructors who take The CPR Lady Instructor Courses and does not charge an additional alignment fee.

If the Instructor is aligned with another Training Center, please inform The CPR Lady Training Center in advance and bring a completed Instructor Candidate Application to class signed by that Training Center's Training Center Coordinator.

7. COURSE MONITORING:
Instructor status is granted, and an Instructor eCard is issued after the Instructor successfully completes the Instructor Course and demonstrates teaching skills while being monitored during a BLS Provider Course. The monitoring must take place within three (3) months of completing the BLS Instructor Course. If the Instructor is aligned with another Training Center, monitoring will be done, and Instructor eCard issued by that Training Center.

The CPR Lady provides American Heart Association CPR BLS Provider and Instructor certifications and renewals throughout Southern California including Orange County, LA County, San Diego County, and Inland Empire, as well as, San Luis Obispo County, Santa Barbara County, Sacramento County and the San Francisco Bay Area. The CPR Lady is authorized to issue AHA cards in California, Arizona and Nevada.
